MEET ANN MILLER

Ann Miller Smith is interested in color and how it is perceived differently by different people. She has studied color extensively as a designer and as an artist. Smith uses color to interpret emotions, most frequently joy, in her art. She does this in several ways; through her abstract paintings, paintings of collaged objects and patterns, and paintings of places she has traveled to. In her abstract work she explores the emotions that can be elicited from the use of pure color and movement. When painting collaged objects, Smith uses color to remind us of the sense of endless possibility that comes with new adventures. Finally, in her travel paintings, she uses color to reflect the transitory experience of being in a beautiful place.

Smith lives and works in Wilmington, North Carolina. She studied Studio Art at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (BA, 2021) and Fashion Development at North Carolina State University (BS, 2015). Smith’s work has been exhibited by multiple galleries, including 311 Gallery, Five 3 Gallery, Las Lagunas Art Gallery, and VAE Raleigh. She recently exhibited at Paradigm Gallery in Chroma, a group exhibition curated in collaboration with PxP Contemporary and Create! Magazine.
